About

The aim of this blog is to provide information for those interested in Google Android. It will mainly be links to other articles I find interesting so apologies if you are hoping for videos of unreleased devices, etc. (I’m not looking to get sued for breaking NDA or PRPA agreements).

My background is in the smartphone industry and I have worked on software for smartphones and PDA’s for the last 11 years. The earliest apps I worked on were for the first Palm devices, then the Pegasus beta (earliest Windows Mobile) followed by the hell that was developing in ‘EPOC’ for the early Symbian devices.

I see Android as being particularly significant not because I believe the first Android phones will be inherently ‘better’ than the iPhone or even Windows Mobile or Symbian phones. I think it will mainly be significant in the number of people who will be able to simply develop applications for it. This comes because of a very low entry point in terms of financial and hardware commitment (anyone can install eclipse on a basic laptop and start coding for Android).

I also expect the adoption of the platform to be high amongst phone manufacturers who do not like paying licence fees for the likes of Windows Mobile in order to produce an internet ready smartphone.
